KCFI Marks 22nd Foundation Day with Tahanan Books Donation
A virtual turnover was held for the 649 donated books by Ilaw ng Tahanan Publishing, Inc. (Tahanan Books) during the 22nd anniversary day of Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI), June 14. The event was led by KCFI President and Executive Director of KCFI Ms. Rina Lopez-Bautista and Ms. Reni Roxas, publisher and editor-in-chief of Tahanan Books. Recipients of the storybooks were parents and students from KCFI’s Basa Bilang Program in Santa Rosa, Laguna and Marikina, and Early Childhood Development Program in Jordan and Buenavista, Guimaras.
Reading books can help address gaps in early childhood and primary learning, two sectors in basic education, greatly affected by the Philippine learning crisis. In 2018, the Philippines ranked 78th out of 79 countries in reading proficiency while 77th in science and mathematics, according to the research conducted by Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
“Matapos ang higit isang taon na tayo [ay] nasa pandemya, tayo ay may pinagdadaanan pa rin na Philippine Learning Crisis. At malalabanan lamang natin ang learning crisis na ito kung magtutulungan tayo at bibigyang pansin natin ang nutrition, helalth, social protection, at early learning stimulation ng mga batang [nasa] edad 0-8 years old,” as stated by Rina Lopez-Bautista.
Reni Roxas believes that their coordination with KCFI will ensure that books will be used to be read by the children and not merely left unused in the library shelves. “We hope our title will serve as useful teaching aids for your literacy development initiatives. Knowledge is a precious commodity in every person’s life. For a developing country such as ours [Philippines], the spread and dissemination of Knowledge are particularly vital to our role as nation builders,” she said.
Meg Roxas, Marketing Coordinator of Tahanan encourages every child to not just stop reading. “Sana hindi lamang matapos sa pagbabasa. Kasi isa din sa mga gusto naming mangyari dahil mga bata pa kayo, sana pangarapin ninyo ring magsulat ng sarili ninyong kuwento, makapagguhit ng sarili ninyong kuwento,” she echoed.
The recipients also expressed their gratitude in a short video slideshow showing the books they received. One parent even sent a handwritten letter which said, “Through these books, madagdagan ang kaalaman ng mga bata, makapagbigay aral, at the same time, nawiwili sila sa pagbabasa / pagsusulat ng libro na malaking tulong sa kanila sa pahanong ito ng pandemya.” Stephanie Burac, one of the Grade 1 pupils under the Basa Bilang program also delighted the donors with her live storytelling of Ma Me Mi Mumu, a storybook written by Jomike Tejido and published by Tahanan Books.

Sa ika-22 anibersaryo ng Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI), isinagawa ang virtual turnover ng nasa 649 librong donasyon mula sa Tahanan Books, Hunyo 14.
Pinangunahan ito nina Ms. Rina Lopez-Bautista, President at Executive Director ng KCFI, Ms. Reni Roxas, publisher at editor-in-chief ng Tahanan Books, kasama ang mga guro at batang makakatanggap ng bilingual storybooks. Mula sa mga pampublikong paaralan sa Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Jordan at Buenavista, Guimaras, at Marikina City ang benipisyaryo ng mga libro.
Ang pagbabasa ng libro ay nakakatulong sa paglilinang at pagpapalawak ng kaalaman ng isang bata. Batay sa pananaliksik ng Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, ika-78 sa 79 bansa ang Pilipinas sa antas ng pagbabasa at 77 sa siyensya at matimatika.
Bilang tagapangasiwa sa pagpapanday ng edukasyon para sa mga bata, ninais ng KCFI na labanan ang dulot ng Philippine Learning Crisis sa pamamagitan ng pagpapayaman sa digital education.

Naniniwala si Reni Roxas na sa kanilang koordinasyon sa KCFI ay masisiguro nitong ang mga libro ay mababasa ng mga bata at hindi lamang mananatiling dekorasyon sa silid-aklatan.
