KCFI, RCMPD, MyPhone Give Tablets, Training to Parents
Thanks to the Rotary Club of Makati Premier District (RCMPD), MyPhone, and Knowledge Channel Foundation, over 200 parents from Santa Rosa, Laguna and Makati will now have the opportunity to watch Knowledge Channel video lessons online via iWant TFC app, YouTube, Facebook, and knowledgechannel.org. Their parents have also been trained for online learning.
This May, Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCFI), Rotary Club of Makati Premier District (RCMPD), and MyPhone held a series of virtual training sessions for parents and students who are part of the Basa Bilang pilot program of KCFI. Earlier this year, 202 MyPhone T8 tablets were donated by RCMPD to parents and learners from the following schools:
Santa Rosa, Laguna (under Basa Bilang – “Wikaharian” pilot group)
Santa Rosa Elementary School Central 1
Santa Rosa Elementary School Central 3
Labas Elementary School
Balibago Elementary School
Makati (under RCMPD)
Francisco Benitez Elementary School III
The MyPhone T8 tablet is equipped with 32GB internal storage with an expandable memory of up to 128 GB via a microSD card slot. Installed with Android 10 OS (GO edition) and a 1.4 GHz Quad-core processor, the 8-inch device is capable of handling online classes, interactive activities, and watching videos in decent quality.
The training session led by MyPhone focused on the basic use of the T8 tablet, essential apps for online learning, and activation of parental controls. The session gave parents the opportunity to ask questions on how they can maximize their tablets and to troubleshoot the device in case of issues.
KCFI head and RCMPD incoming president Rina Lopez emphasized the importance of the training session as part of the Foundation’s thrust in supporting parents in their children’s learning during the pandemic. “Kaya narito kami ang Knowledge Channel Foundation, ang RCMPD at ang MyPhone para tulungan kayong matulungan ang inyong mga anak sa pag-aaral. Kung nahihirapan kayong turuan ang inyong mga anak, ang sagot sa problema ninyo ay ang [Knowledge Channel] video lessons na pwedeng panoorin ng mga anak ninyo kasi nakasunod ang aming mga palabas sa lesson plans mula sa DepEd.”
Sonie Aguilar, RCMPD Service Project Chair, also reiterated Lopez’s reminder in one of her closing messages during the sessions. “As donor, we have a social responsibility to inform you, to guide you that there are responsibilities for our recipients as well. Our club has been very passionate in supporting the basic education and literacy which is so alive with Knowledge Channel Foundation.”
Through these tablet donations and training for parents, KCFI, RCMPD, and MyPhone are able to bridge the digital divide in learning and eventually stave off the learning crisis that is currently gripping the nation.
