Knowledge Channel Bags 2017 SineBata Award

Winners will also represent PH in the First Southeast Asia Prix Jeunesse to be held in Manila this November

Knowledge Channel’s Salam: Bagong Kaibigan episode recently received the accolade from AnakTV under the “Professional: Non-fiction (Ages 13-17)” Category. More than 100 videos were screened and judged in the SineBata national competition of which winners get a coveted spot as one of the 10 official entries of the Philippines for the very first Southeast Asia Prix Jeunesse (SEAPJ).

The show, done in partnership with AustralianAid and Lopez Group Foundation, aims to develop a mindset of acceptance and tolerance of other cultures especially towards fellow Filipino Muslims. This episode introduces the concept of peace as seen in the realities of two different generations. Two of the main characters — Jay, a third year high school student and his mother, are faced with situations where they learned how to overcome prejudices and stereotyping. This teaches the audience that understanding and accepting individual differences is one effective way of cultivating a culture of peace.

Receiving the award on behalf of Knowledge Channel Foundation is President and Executive Director Rina Lopez Bautista and Director of Operations Edric C. Calma.

Salam: Bagong Kaibigan is the Philippines’ Official Entry to the First Southeast Asia Prix Jeunesse, an international children’s film festival participated by ASEAN countries. It will be held at the Peninsula Manila from Nov. 27 to 29, 2017.
