Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) Honored for Contributions to National Teachers’ Month 2024

MAKATI CITY, PHILIPPINES – Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) was recently recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the National Teachers’ Month Coordinating Council (NTMCC) for its significant contributions in the celebration of National Teachers’ Month (NTM) 2024. This was presented during the 44th NTMCC meeting on March 11, 2025.

KCFI played an active role in supporting and empowering educators during NTM 2024 through a range of initiatives. These efforts focused on several key areas:

  • Teacher Development: KCFI strengthened teacher development through extensive technical training programs and the provision of learning resources. This included training teachers on the Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library (KCPML) in Leyte, Bukidnon, Ifugao, and Bataan, as well as Knowledge Channel TV (KCTV) training at the Philippine School for the Deaf.

  • Teacher Recognition: To honor outstanding educators, KCFI launched the searches for "Gurong May K: Best Teachers of Knowledge Channel Awards," which aims to recognize teachers and child development workers who engage their learners with Knowledge Channel video lessons. KCFI also created and broadcasted a 1-minuter on the National Teachers Month as a way to create awareness on the celebration.

  • Educational Support through Knowledge Channel Learning Resources: KCFI expanded its educational support through initiatives such as the Child Development Workers' and Teachers' Conference, which focused on Early Care Matters, and the launch of new educational shows aligned with DepEd’s curriculum. KCFI President and Executive Director Rina Lopez also presented the organization's initiatives for both basic education and Early Childhood Development (ECD) at the NTM kickoff.

These initiatives highlight KCFI's 25-year commitment to educational innovation and intervention.

“Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to empowering educators and providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed,” said Edric Calma, KCFI Vice President. “We are honored to be recognized for our efforts during National Teachers' Month and remain committed to supporting the professional growth and development of teachers across the Philippines.”

Background on National Teachers' Month

National Teachers' Month is celebrated annually from September 5 to October 5, with October 5 designated as Teachers' Day. This celebration is mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 242.

The celebration goes a long way back to the "Teacher Ko, Idol Ko" campaign, which began in 2008. This campaign was a collaborative effort by the Department of Education, Metrobank Foundation Inc., Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc., and other partner organizations.

The month-long celebration culminates in World Teachers' Day on October 5th, as established by UNESCO, and aims to recognize the vital role teachers play in shaping the future of Filipino students. A law was later enacted designating October 5 as National Teachers’ Day. NTM 2024’s theme, "Together4Teachers," emphasizes the heroic role of educators, highlighting the "4As of Gratitude": Appreciation, Admiration, Approval, and Attention.
