Knowledge Channel Shares Impact Studies at Education Conference

Learners indeed learn best with Knowledge Channel. Speaking in front of more than 100 educators, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc., (KCFI) President and Executive Director Rina Lopez Bautista presented different studies on the impact of Knowledge Channel’s programs during the National Conference on Technology in Education 2017 event last September 13 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay.

Lopez Bautista was one of the selected key speakers during the three-day conference which aimed to educate and inform participants of the latest innovations and practices in the field of education technology.

In her session entitled “Media-Based Learning in the Philippines“, Lopez Bautista discussed several studies on the effects of watching Knowledge Channel to learning. These included works from Dr. Dennis Mapa of the University of the Philippines, the Lasallian Institute for Development and Education Research (LIDER), and Bayan Academy. She also presented researches done on Knowledge Channel’s teacher training program called LEEP or Learning Effectively Through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies.

As shown in her presentation, learners who watched Knowledge Channel regularly performed better in class. In the 2009 Proficient Measures for Quality Education (PQME) Study done by Dr. Dennis Mapa, students who watched Knowledge Channel got better post test results noting that there was a “positive effect in their average academic performance.” The 2015 LIDER Study also cited that schools with Knowledge Channel had an academic advantage of up to 45% compared to those schools without Knowledge Channel.

In LEEP studies done for the areas of Guimaras and Coron, the feedback was mostly positive as well, enabling participants to shift from a traditional way of teaching to a more 21st Century learner-centered approach. This led to marked improvement in the academic performance of students and even an increase in attendance rates.

In her speech, Lopez Bautista emphasized the crucial role of technology in education. “What we’ve learned, as the LIDER study pointed out, is that technology indeed supports learning. And technology will greatly help bring quality education to the doorstep of every school,” she concluded.
