Looking Back: KCFI’s Best of 2018

2018 has been a very busy year for Knowledge Channel Foundation. Together with our generous partners, mountains were climbed and seas were crossed, all in the spirit of serving and educating Filipino children through better-trained teachers, media and technology. Below are the best of KCFI this 2018.
Giving Gifts of Knowledge All Over the Philippines
Staying true to its mission of being responsible stewards and creators of transformative learning experience, KCFI distributed educational resources to public schools all over the Philippines with the help of our generous sponsors.
KCFI and Round Table Philippines hands GOK On-Demand Package
February 24, last year, KCFI and Round Table Philippines headlined the delivery of a Gift of Knowledge On-Demand Package comprising of a 40” LED TV set, Edifier speakers and an external hard drive with more than 1,000 educational videos and electronic learning games and activities in San Roque Elementary School in Naic, Cavite.
KCFI, TV Patrols tandems for GOK Leyte
TV Patrol, led by ABS-CBN news anchor Ted Failon, also donated a Gift of Knowledge educational television package complete with speakers and digital educational learning resources to Judge Antonio R. Montilla Elementary School in Abucay, Tabloban City, Leyte.
Rizal receives Gift of Knowledge
11 public schools in coastal and mountainous areas in Rizal each received a 40-inch LED TV, a digital terrestrial box, and a Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library (external hard drive) loaded with more than 1,000 curriculum-based videos, games, session guides and other learning materials from KCFI and Morong High School Alumni Association Inc. (MHSAAI)
KCFI, SMF, and SMCGPI takes GOK to Davao
Gift of Knowledge On-Demand packages were also given to 5 beneficiary schools in the municipality of Malita, Davao Occidental through the shared efforts of KCFI, San Miguel Consolidated Global Power Inc. and San Miguel Foundation.
Recipients of the Gift of Knowledge packages were New Argao Elementary School, Felis Elementary School, Mariano Elementary School, Malita Central Elementary School, and Mariano Peralta National High School.
KCFI and Malampaya renews GOK-Palawan
6 schools from Palawan also received GOK On-Demand Packages with half-day technical training from KCFI and Malampaya Foundation. Beneficiary schools were Bucana Elementary School, Bulalacao Elementary School, Lajala Elementary School, Marcilla Elementary School, and South Canipo Elementary School.
KCFI and Lingkod Kapamilya Distributes ”Gusto Kong Mag-aral” Bags
Aside from digital learning materials, KCFI and ABS-CBN Lingod Kapamilya Foundation (ALKFI) donated school bags and supplies. A total of 3500 students from 18 public schools in Sta. Rosa, Laguna received “Gusto Kong Mag-aral” bags as part of KCFI’s Basa Bilang Project.
The bags were received by representatives from the Division Office of Sta. Rosa and were distributed to the students of Santo Domingo Elementary School, Don Jose Elementary School, Malitlit Elementary School, Dita Elementary School, Dila Elementary School, Jose Zavalla Memorial Elementary School, Caingin Elementary School, Southville 4 Caingin Elementary School, Sinalhan Elementary School, Aplaya Elementary School, Santa Rosa ES Central I, Santa Rosa ES Central II, Santa Rosa ES Central III, Tagapo Elementary School, Labas Elementary School, Macabling Elementary School, Balibago Elementary School and Pulong Sta. Cruz Elementary School.
KCFI and Sky Cable for “BOOKas Palad”
KCFI and Sky Cable also distributed 2,000 storybooks to public school pupils all over the country as part of its “BOOKas Palad” project. These storybooks from Adarna Publishing House are also brought to life in Knowledge Channel’s animation series Kuwentong Pambata.
A ceremonial turnover and a storytelling activity were also held in Bago Bantay Elementary School, Quezon City. The school also received a Knowledge Channel portable media library.
Forged Partnerships
This year, KCFI also forged partnerships with organizations that share their advocacy of uplifting the lives of Filipino Children by giving them and their teachers’ training and educational resources.
KCFI and Unilever Partner for Confidently U
Together with Pond’s, Rexona and Cream Silk, KCFI launched the “Confidently U” Workshop Series. The workshop aims to train students who are going through puberty on how to build their self-confidence though proper hygiene and self-care.
The workshops were held from October 3 to November 21, 2018, in 54 public schools in Caloocan, Quezon City, Pasig, Marikina, Muntinlupa, and Rizal.
Admit One, Educate All
Last year also marked another first for KCFI as it launched the first movie block screening with ABS-CBN, Sky Cable, Energy Development Corporation, Lopez Holdings Corporation and Round Table Philippines last November 18 at Cinema 7, Powerplant Mall in Rockwell Makati. MBS aimed to raise more funds for the KCFI’s Gift of Knowledge campaign.
Before the screening, the 300 attendees received different gifts from MyPhone Pilipinas, ABS-CBN TV Plus, Aruga Service Apartments by Rockwell, Japan Home Center and Star City.
The fundraiser proved to be successful as it raised more than PHP 140, 000 all for donating “Gift of Knowledge” packages which contain 40-inch LCD television, external speakers, and a portable media library containing more than 1,000 Knowledge Channel educational videos and other multimedia resources.
Leaping with LEEP
Aside from fun and curriculum-based educational resources, KCFI also delivered LEEP or Learning Effectively through Enhanced Pedagogies in Laguna, Lanao and Sultan Kudarat.
LEEP-Lanao
On June 22 to 24, last year, KCFI traveled to Lanao Del Norte, partnered with their division office and trained over 60 teachers from the municipalities of Kapatagan, Magsaysay, Tangkal, Tagoloan, and Marawi. Hard drives containing over 1,000 educational resources were also handed by KCFI to better equip the newly trained teacher.
LEEP-Sultan Kudarat
Immediately after Lanao Del Norte, KCFI struck a deal with the Division Office of Sultan Kudarat and gathered over 120 educators from around the province and trained them from June 28 to 30 in FB Hotel in South Cotabato.
KCFI and CBK Power Company Limited takes LEEP to Laguna
KCFI also combined their efforts with CBK Power Company Ltd. to bring LEEP to Laguna. More than 60 educators were trained from October 24 to 26 in Camarin Resort in Laguna.
KCFI partners with 5 of the largest universities for PRIME
This year, also marked preparations for PRIME which aims to give outstanding primary grade teachers to take a 15 unit, 10 months, 5 module program that would pave the way for a Masteral Degree. KCFI signed a Memorandum of Understanding on October 9 and 11 with partner schools: Ateneo De Manila University, De La Salle University, Philippine Normal University, University of the Philippines and University of Sto. Tomas.
This year, KCFI also forged partnerships with organizations that share their advocacy of uplifting the lives of Filipino Children by giving them and their teachers’ training and educational resources.
More Exciting Content
Knowledge Channel also debuted newer and more entertaining educational content last year to further expand its list of locally-produced and aired shows and videos.
Newest Classmates On Air: Oyayi
Focusing on cultivating and rekindling timeless lessons for children, Knowledge Channel opened its morning slot for the award-winning Oyayi. The show follows the adventures of Kuya Maki and his endangered animal friends to defeat the evil Dr. Kuwago Zhibago and the Tor-Nil-Yons.
Oyayi airs every Wednesday, 8:00 AM with replays at 6:00 PM.
Jairus and Sharlene Return for Estudyantipid
With Insular Life on board, 2018 also marked the return of Estudyantipid. The show featured the adventures Marla and Jordan played by Sharlene San Pedro and Jairus Aquino while showing different ways to earn and save money.

Weather Wiser Ka Na Ba? And WeatherWIzards
Together with Weather Philippines Foundation, KCFI added new online content with Weather Wiser Ka na Ba? and WeatherWizards.
Weather Wiser Ka na Ba? featured topics such as climate change, humidity, weather elements and many more explained thoroughly in 5-minute videos.
WeatherWizards, on the other hand, were created for young kids and featured characters such as Tito Nilo, Tito Mike, Kuya Neil and Kuya Adonis discussing different weather topics.

Siklo ng Enerhiya
Centering gender equality in the scientific community and awareness in energy fundamentals, Knowledge Channel worked with the Department of Energy to produce Siklo ng Enerhiya. The 5-minute animation video focuses on a little girl who aspires to be an electrical engineer and in the process learns about the source of electrical energy.
