Filipino children and teachers can look forward to a happier new year as Knowledge Channel launches a its latest educational show for elementary English called “Ready, Set, Read!” Done in partnership with Security Bank Foundation and Ateneo Center for Education Development (ACED), the show aims to provide Filipino children with English language proficiency and prepare them to succeed and thrive in a globally-connected society. The first 20 video lessons for “Ready, Set, Read!”, has already started airing with five episodes each have been produced for Grades 1 and 5, while 10 episodes were produced for Grade 3.

The series which utilizes songs, rhymes, dances, graphics and animation is based on DepEd’s Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) and Teacher’s Guides. Its narrative centers on discovery adventures  of Joji, a kuya-teacher figure and his animal friends Marj (lizard), Ogot (goat), Cathy (cat), and Nene (beetle). Every day they embark into different scenarios wherein they discuss different concepts of the English language.

The three organizations collectively chose English Reading competencies as the subject matter of the educational materials after the reports of the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the 2019 Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM) showed that Filipino students lag behind other countries in terms of reading proficiency.

“Our partnership with Security Bank Foundation and Ateneo comes at a time when video lessons have become fundamental in ensuring that learning continues even amidst any calamity or pandemic. This video series will also provide Filipino children with English reading proficiency that will prepare them to succeed and thrive in a globally-connected society,” says Rina Lopez Bautista, President and Executive Director of Knowledge Channel Foundation.

“Uplifting the quality of life in communities where Security Bank has a presence is the goal of Security Bank Foundation.
