Reintroducing traditional Filipino games to a new generation, the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) and Unilever-Breeze concluded their first-ever EcoPlay for school year 2024-2025, engaging almost 150,000 learners, teachers, and parents across the Schools Division Offices (SDOs) of Marikina City, Quezon City, and Taguig-Pateros.

A total of 92,018 learners viewed the video lesson created for EcoPlay to learn about traditional Filipino games and received EcoPlay journals to reflect on the project and jot down key takeaways. In addition, 51,959 Grade 4-6 learners played the actual games during their Physical Education (PE) classes. EcoPlay culminated in a Palarong Pinoy Division Meet in each SDO, where 1,787 Grade 4-6 representative learners competed. Winning schools in the Palarong Pinoy were awarded with a Knowledge Channel TV (KCTV) which contains thousands of video lessons, e-games, and e-session guides.
Through EcoPlay, KCFI and Unilever-Breeze aim to foster resilience and encourage play among learners by integrating traditional Filipino games like tumbang preso and patintero into their PE curriculum. These games support the children’s holistic development by improving their physical fitness, developing strategic thinking, promoting socialization, and strengthening their cultural identity. The EcoPlay project not only makes learning more enjoyable but also creates a balanced approach to academics and physical activity.
KCFI reached more and teached more at the beginning of the year. 10 schools in Misamis Oriental underwent Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies (LEEP) Reading training, which equips Grade 1-3 teachers with skills to teach learners how to read reading in English and Filipino, in partnership with FDC Misamis Power Corporation in January. Teachers from 14 schools in Morong, Rizal, also joined a Kumustahan session, where they shared their experiences and feedback on using their Knowledge Channel Portable Media Libraries (KCPMLs), gifted by the Morong High School Alumni Association Northern California Chapter (MHSAAI Nor Cal).
Additionally, more areas nationwide recently received KCTV and KCPML packages through the support of partner organizations: Tanay, Rizal with Sikat Solar Challenge Foundation; Oriental Mindoro with Bantay Bata 163; Camarines Sur and Sorsogon with BPI Foundation; Occidental Mindoro with PERRC Construction and Development Corporation; and Batangas Province, Quezon Province, and Southern Leyte with GNPower Dinginin.
KCFI also partnered with AIA Philippines to produce 9 video lessons on science and health as part of AIA’s Healthiest Schools program, which provides educators with resources to help young learners develop healthy habits and implement changes to create happier, healthier schools and communities. Furthermore, KCFI recently launched the Class Project mini-documentary competition in collaboration with the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE), challenging college learners to explore the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the experiences of Filipino children.
