The Basa Bilang Project helps Filipino primary grade students confidently read and do math so they can become independent learners, confident problem solvers, and critical thinkers by the end of Grade 3. To fulfill this need, our goal is to develop 1,500 animated learning videos for Grades 1-3 in Filipino, English, and Math, based on the Department of Education’s textbooks and daily budget of work. These videos will be distributed on Knowledge Channel’s various platforms on-air, online, and offline.
Our Dream
To empower Filipino children by improving their learning through multimedia resources. Through our videos and e-modules, we help them gain the foundational skills for learning so that they have a better chance to succeed in school and in life.
By transforming the way they learn and effecting excellent learning outcomes, they can live happier and healthier lives and serve their families, their community, and the country.
Why Early Reading and Numeracy?
Low language literacy and numeracy skills in the foundational years make it difficult for students to progress in school –resulting in poor learning, poor critical thinking, poor problem solving skills, and a poor workforce.
Poor reading and math skills in early grades makes it harder for kids to progress in higher grades – resulting in poor problems solving skills and understanding of complex ideas
Teachers struggle with very big class sizes, and severe lack of instructional materials and training to better teach their learners.
Many of these public school children’s families live below poverty line making do with less than USD5/day.
Solving the problem creates more positive trends.
