168 students graduate from Knowledge Channel Internship Program

In line with Knowledge Channel Foundation’s 20th Anniversary, a total of 168 students from 24 partner colleges and universities were given special recognition after completing their internships for academic year 2018-2019. Held at the ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater in Quezon City, the auspicious event recognized the invaluable effort and work interns did in supporting the advocacy and programs of the Foundation especially in the production of animated videos for Basa Bilang and Knowledge TV.
“Today we rename the KCIP into the Knowledge Channel Volunteer and Internship Program or KCVIP to signify that the volunteers and interns are very important persons,” said Rina Lopez-Bautista, KCFI President and Executive Director during her welcome remarks. “Sana mas mapaganda pa natin ang estado ng edukasyon ng Pilipinas one student, one teacher, one classroom at a time, kasama ang Department of Education. I–share natin ang saya ng pag–aaral through our talents and our hard work.”
iAcademy President and Chief Executive Officer, Vanessa Tanco also commended the graduates, 75 of which came from iAcademy Senior High School and College, as she represented the 24 partner schools. She also thanked Knowledge Channel for giving the students the opportunity to showcase their talent. “Thank you so much for such a great internship program that you’ve established here in the Knowledge Channel. It really allowed our students to practice what they’ve done in school,” Tanco said.
The graduates on the other hand, expressed their gratitude to their KCVIP mentors and supervisors for giving them an unforgettable experience. Margarite Igcasan, batch representative and outstanding intern awardee from University of the Philippines – Los Baños, delivered a moving speech on how KCVIP has changed her life. “I know as students it was refreshing to see that our work meant something and was directly impacting lives, rather than just beating some deadline,” she shared.
The night was also made more special for the interns when two of the brightest young Filipinas in the field of Science shared some words of inspiration: astrophysicist and Ateneo professor Dr. Reina Reyes and 2017 Breakthrough Junior Challenge winner Hillary Andales. Reyes delivered a short but meaningful talk as she asked the audience to do an experiment on proprioception. “There are also many times when things happen that you actually did not expect,” said Reyes after she asked the audience to do the experiment. “Usually these experiences frustrate us or discourage us. But what I want to encourage you to do today is approach that in a different way, to approach that with curiosity, with openness. That is where real learning happens.”
Andales, the keynote speaker of the event, also emphasized the importance of being an eagle and reaching for one’s dreams. “Have you been living as a chicken or an eagle?” Andales asked. She reminded that interns can also be eagles. And to be one, it is important to look in, look ahead, look up, and look around.
