3 Must Watch AgriCOOLture Season 2 Episodes

BY MICHAEL RAMOS AND AZRAEL GONZALES

Working in agriculture may seem to be the most uninteresting option as a career path. Who wouldn’t want an awesome corner office with a spectacular skyscraper view right? But despite career cliches of working in big companies with classy offices, pursuing agriculture can prove to be fun, adventurous, and practical.

With Knowledge Channel’s immersive second season of AgriCOOLture, matinee idol Enchong Dee deep dives into the different businesses in agriculture: from farming to poultry and even aquaculture. Watch him wade through knee deep water while catching some fish and even stick a mud putty on his forehead!

Now made available on Knowledge Channel’s YouTube channel, here are the three MUST WATCH episodes from this new season!

AgriCOOLture | Fish Farming and Harvesting Tools

In this episode, Enchong visits a local milkfish farm to know how to grow and manage this kind of business. He talks to an aquapreneur who tours him around his property to explain how fish ponds are created and how fish are grown and cultivated. In one scene, Enchong himself goes knee deep into the water to check out if the “fry” or baby fish are ready to move to a bigger pond.

Fun fact! Just like humans, fish also have separate spaces for eating and sleeping!

AgriCOOLture | Animal Production / Livestock

After taking a stroll around a fish farm, Enchong travels to the foot of Mt. Banahaw to visit an old friend who’s very much involved in animal and vegetable production. He gets to check out the six-hectare Costales organic farm while learning about the process on how start one. Memorable scenes include Enchong visiting a vermiculture farm (vermiphobes beware!) and amusingly chasing down a hen at a chicken coop!

Fun fact: The farm also breeds the rare Chinese Silkie chicken which is known for its fluffy plumage and dark skin, meat, bones, and even blood.

AgriCOOLture | Crop Production

Enchong’s agriculture adventure continues in the Costales farm but this time, he’s off to explore crop production. He learns that worm poop (yes, that’s right) and crushed charcoal is a better medium for growing lettuce seeds compared to regular soil. He then helps out in replanting some of the baby lettuce from the nursery to the farm grounds and… in a total surprise, sticks a soil putty on his forehead and nose!

Fun fact: You can actually use your own kitchen waste as garden fertilizer using the Bokashi method!
