‘Colored Glitches’: KCVIP continues mission amid pandemic

BY ELAINE MALABAYABAS

Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. celebrated a night full of hopes and dreams through the virtual graduation of Batch 2020 interns and volunteers on Thursday, July 16, 2020.

Inspired with the theme “Colored Glitches”, KCFI motivated the graduating interns and volunteers to continue to bring life and color to the Filipino children even in these trying times.

“Despite all the challenges we are facing as a nation this year, the Knowledge Channel Foundation continues its work in the service of the Filipino children. We continue to produce video lessons, broadcasting them on cable TV, and exerting all efforts to widen our reach once again and bring learning to children that needed it the most,” KCFI President and Executive Director Rina Lopez Bautista said as she opened the ceremony.

“Thank you for sharing our advocacy and doing something good for the children of the Philippines specially at this time,” said Mr. Edric Calma, the Knowledge Channel’s Head of Operations as he thanked the interns and volunteers for their work in the middle of the pandemic.

This year, 331 interns and volunteers from 21 different colleges and universities participated in the foundation’s Internship Program to learn and hone skills in animation, graphic design, research, game development, IT and web application, and marketing with the purpose of serving the Filipino children.

Mistral Ira Reyes, the Most Outstanding Intern of Batch 2020 shared that grit and passion were the most important values she learned throughout her time of work and volunteer in Knowledge Channel. She went on to encourage her fellow graduates with the words, “Given the challenges we face today, let us remember to not let the grit inside of us fade away and to keep the fire of passion inside your hearts.”

The Virtual Internship Program also housed 146 interns from Ngee Ann Polytechnic Singapore which made KCFI’s Volunteer and Internship Program international. Mr. Melvin Tan, Course Chair, Diploma in Immersive Media from Ngee Ann Polytechnic Singapore expressed his gratitude to Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. for their partnership in training their students to be real-world-ready individuals with a purpose. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers and Knowledge Channel Foundation. Thank you for making the world a better place.”

Sherwin O, President of the CIIT College of Arts and Technology shared his vision for the KCVIP’s Batch 2020 graduates as they delve into the real world after. “In the future, each and every one of you will also be drawing your characters, writing your stories, and filming your movies that will inspire all of us. But the greatest story that you can ever tell will not necessarily be that. Instead, it will be the story of your own personal lives, your own battles of your own journey to greatness. Stories of how in the middle of all of this you chose to volunteer. Of how you decided to help, instead of blame others. Of how hopefully, together, all of us came together to face our challenges head on.”

Ms. Doris Nuval expressed her firm hope for KCVIP to grow more in numbers, “Siguro next year, we’ll be more than 500 because we started at 91, and then 258, then 331. Maybe more than 500 next year ‘di ba?” Knowledge Channel Foundation started the Volunteer and Internship Program (KCVIP) in 2017, with 91 interns, grew more as the years went by.
