KCFI and ALKFI take LEEP-PFA to Leyte and Samar

For the month of February, more than 100 teachers participated in Knowledge Channel Foundation’s (KCFI) first leg of teacher training sessions in Leyte and Samar incorporating Psychological First Aid (PFA) under LEEP or Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies. A total of 52 participants from 17 public schools in Leyte participated from February 13 to 16, 2017 while 63 participants from 16 public schools in Samar participated from February 23 to 26, 2017.

LEEP is a training program designed by KCFI for elementary and secondary school teachers and their principals to promote active participation, collaboration, critical thinking and other learner-centered strategies in the classroom.

In partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation (ALKFI) – Sagip Kapamilya, PFA was folded into the LEEP three-day training where teachers were oriented on how to respond appropriately and effectively to the psychological needs of students/survivors immediately after a catastrophe. A four-part video series hosted by Atom Araullo supplemented the PFA training where concepts and scenarios were explained in each episode.

PFA was co-developed with the Fr. Bulatao Center and the Department of Psychology of the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) and the Department of Education Regional and Division offices. It was also one of the ten winners of the 2016 Lopez Achievement Awards.
