KCFI and ChildHope Bring Education to the Streets

In an effort to reach out to all learners, especially to those who are not in school, Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCFI) and ChildHope Asia Philippines have partnered together to bring education to the streets.

ChildHope engages out-of-school children and youth through their street educators who utilize the Department of Education’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) “More than teaching the street kids the basics of reading and writing, our street educators also instill in them the values they need so they can grow up to be caring, confident, responsible, and resilient men and women,” said Dr. Herbert Carpio, Executive Director of ChildHope Asia.

Technology is also used by these street educators through Knowledge Channel’s multi-media learning resources. With a television installed in their mobile van, kids get to watch educational shows no matter the location. “More than 1000 videos and other learning resources from Knowledge Channel are right at the fingertips of the street educators,” said Rina Lopez Bautista, Executive Director of KCFI. “Since Knowledge Channel is the biggest classroom on-air, our multi-media learning resources are not just in public school classrooms and homes. You can take it even on the streets just like what ChildHope is doing.”

In 2016, more than 400 street children have attended ChildHope’s alternative learning classes with 37 of them now attending formal school.

Knowledge Channel has also been actively partnering with different organizations to bring quality educational multi-media resources in every classroom. To date, more than 6000 educational TV systems have been distributed and connected to different public schools and learning centers nationwide.

The partnership between Knowledge Channel Foundation and ChildHope Asia Philippines has been made possible through the Fundraisers Network for Development or (FuND Philippines).
