KCFI Celebrates Volunteerism Month!
This May, Knowledge Channel Foundation highlights the spirit of volunteerism through the Knowledge Channel Volunteer and Internship Program.
In May of 2009, the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI hereafter) started to mobilize and recruit volunteers to contribute to its mission to help educate the underprivileged, specifically the underserved in the education sector of the Philippines namely the public school teachers and students, through media and technology. It set up the Volunteer Management Program (VMP hereafter), a structure which managed the volunteers from recruitment, on-boarding, exit and evaluation, and finally, recognition. The very first volunteers of KCFI assisted in monitoring the use of Knowledge Channel programs in public schools provided with electronic educational resources such as a set of television and speakers, a portable media library and/or cable/direct-to-home satellite connection. The VMP became an important support mechanism for on-the-ground efforts of the foundation. More so, it was able to concretize the spirit of cooperation and collaboration among different KCFI stakeholders.
In 2017, KCFI rebranded VMP into Knowledge Channel Internship Program (KCIP hereafter) to further its commitment in giving meaningful and impactful experiences to its then called “Knowledge Movers” inside (students and faculty) and outside the school and universities (allied industries). It was also the time when KCFI welcomed the most number of student-interns, a total of 70, in a quarter of the year. KCIP was built on KCFI’s belief that through their internship program, college students are able to gain additional skills and knowledge in their chosen field and to realize their role in nation-building as the country’s future transformational leaders.
This year (2019), after careful planning and consultations, KCFI has strengthened its policy for its student-interns and volunteers who shall now be collectively called the “Knowledge Champions.” This revised policy shall be called the “Knowledge Channel Volunteer and Internship Program” (KCVIP hereafter).
On the micro level, KCVIP is greatly aligned with KCFI’s mission and vision and inspired by KCFI’s core values:
Social Justice
Passion to Serve
Commitment to Holistic Learning
Integrity
Nationalism
Since 2017, over 700 interns and volunteers have made Knowledge Channel Foundation their home for the duration of their internship and volunteer service.
