KCFI holds various trainings for teachers this May
Capacity building for teachers continue amid this pandemic as Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCFI) mounts several trainings on various topics.
Last May 12, Knowledge Channel Foundation conducted a training on Beginning Reading to the 17 participating Grade 1 teachers and principals under Basa Bilang in Santa Rosa, Laguna and Marikina. They are part of Knowledge Channel’s Basa Bilang in the pilot implementation of Wikaharian video lessons in their respective schools. (Wikaharian is an animated series on how to teach reading in Filipino to Grade 1 kids.) The training included several modules that will help them integrate Wikaharian successfully to their online classes.

Another training was held last May 14 by Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI), Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED), and Knowledge Channel Foundation in line with the implementation of Knowledge Channel’s Ready, Set, Read, an animation series in teaching English to Grade 1 learners as part of Basa Bilang. Attended by over 10,000 participants from all over the country, the training focused on the growth mindset and how to use Ready, Set ,Read video lessons as learning pedagogy.
In a message from KCFI President Rina Lopez, she mentioned the importance of partnerships during this pandemic. “Let me say that despite the challenges: COVID-19 and the learning crisis we are experiencing now, Knowledge Channel Foundation is here, I am here along with our partners, SBFI and Ateneo to help you. Only if we work together will we be able to end this
learning crisis. The way that we will educate our children today will dictate the kind of future our country will have.”
SBFI has funded the production of 10 Ready, Set, Read videos for Grade 3, and five each for Grade 1 and 5 as well as the accompanying training sessions for teachers.

A one-day virtual training was also conducted last May 20 to 25 teachers and 2 principals from Malabrigo Elementary School and Malabrigo National High School sponsored by the Lopez Learning Synergy Summit – Education Cluster (ABS-CBN Foundation, ABS-CBN Bantay Bata 163, Ang Misyon, Energy Development Corp., Fil-Asia Assistance Foundation, First Gen, First Industrial Science and Technology School, First Philippine Industrial Park, Mount apo Foundation, Oscar M. Lopez Center – Science for Climate Resilience Communities, Program Genio, and Knowledge Channel Foundation). Topics included Curriculum Planning, Growth Mindset, Psychological First Aid, Technology-based Learning using Knowledge Channel resources, and a session on Stakeholder Engagement. This training session is part of the Lopez Synergy Summit – Education Cluster’s Agham Para sa Pagbabago (APP) Project which aims to improve Science and Technology instruction and learning in the area towards creating disaster-resilient communities.
