KCFI Joins DepEd and Metrobank Foundation in Honoring Four Teachers as 2017 Outstanding Filipinos

Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCFI) along with other partners joined the Department of Education (DepEd) and Metrobank Foundation in honoring the four teachers who made it to the list of 2017 Outstanding Filipinos.

In a press conference held at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan at the DepEd Central Office last September 8, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones led in commending teachers Jennifer Rojo of Neogan Elementary School in Tagaytay City, Edgar Elago of Magallanes National High School in Agusan del Norte, Esperanza Cabrera of De La Salle University, and Alonzo Gabriel of University of the Philippines. Each of them received P1 million in cash, a medallion, and a trophy to signify their invaluable contributions in the field of education.

In a speech delivered by the education chief, she stressed on the importance of teaching kids skills that are essential in today’s world. “We want to teach our children to think creatively, to respond to change, to ask questions, to be critical, to find solutions because the world is changing very, very fast,” she said.

KCFI Director of Operations, Edric Calma, also brought the same point to the fore when he delivered his speech during the event on Knowledge Channel’s LEEP or Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies. “Because we are trying to make our educational system responsive for change, this can only be done by capacitating our teachers,” he said.

Other highlights included the ceremonial unveiling of the PHLPost stamp for National Teachers Month and an overview of events for the upcoming World Teachers Day celebration on October 5.
