KCFI joins Higher Education Forum on Lifelong Learning

In a continuing effort to engage stakeholders across the region, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) recently participated in the Southeast Asian Higher Education (SEA-HiEd) Forum on Lifelong Learning for Skills and Employability organized by the Department of Education (DepEd) and held at the Soriano Hall of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) in Quezon City last June 8, 2018. Representing KCFI were President and Executive Director, Rina Lopez Bautista, Director of Operations, Edric Calma, and former DepEd Secretary and KCFI Education Consultant, Dr. Fe Hidalgo.

With the theme “From Agenda to Action: 1st Philippine Forum on Lifelong Learning,” the forum became a “platform for national authorities responsible for higher education as well as university executives and faculty to address key issues in higher education for the Southeast Asian region.” (Source: rihed.seameo.org)

KCFI was invited to the forum to share its different programs that are helping Filipino children become lifelong learners. One of these is KCFI’s teacher training program called LEEP or Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies (LEEP).

According to Calma, one of the problems discussed during the workshop was the lack of access to technology by the learners.  Only 20% of the schools in the country have internet connection which limits accessibility to multimedia learning resources (MMLR). Despite this challenge, KCFI is able to provide alternative ways for students to access MMLR: on-air through ABS-CBN TV Plus, SKY Direct and partner cable operators or offline using KCFI’s portable media library.

According to Calma, additional opportunities for lifelong learning was also discussed during the workshop. KCFI is addressing this through the production of sustainable shows, programs, and online applications.
