KCFI Leads LCF CommEd Project for Talaga ES in Rizal
With the aim of uniting the private sector in supporting Philippine basic education, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) took the lead in the Committee on Education of the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF CommEd) to assist Talaga Elementary School in Morong, Rizal.
The project was launched last October 20 at the school grounds of Talaga ES and was welcomed by the teachers and the school’s drum and lyre band. Schools Division Superintendent of Rizal Dr. Maritez Ibañez also extended her thanks during the event. “Talagang maswerte ang Talaga na napili tayo na tulungan ng League of Corporate Foundations,”she said.
A Unified Effort for Talaga ES
With a population of 454 learners (based on 2016 school data) and 10 teachers, Talaga ES has been facing several challenges in the past years. Aside from its remote location, most of its students have been coming from relocation communities. Enrolment has been increasing in the past years pushing the school to expand its infrastructure and services. Currently, the school has a total of 9 classrooms: five are reported to be in good condition, while four are in need of repair.
Other concerns include student dropouts of more than 100 children aged 5 to 17 years old and low National Achievement Test (NAT) results.
In an effort to support Talaga ES, KCFI Director of Operations and LCF CommEd Chairman Edric Calma spearheaded an initiative with LCF CommEd which will involve a series of activities to be steered by different committee members.
KCFI, being the pioneer of the project since 2016, has connected Talaga Elementary School to Knowledge Channel and trained the teachers in KCFI’s Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence based Pedagogies (LEEP).
Other CommEd members committed to contribute the following:
6-month feeding program by the Jesus V del Rosario Foundation and Kservico
organic farming project (training and actual implementation) by East West Seed Foundation
books and cabinet donation from Aboitiz Foundation
football clinic by Telus Foundation
McDonald’s big book donation and training for teachers on teaching beginning reading from Ronald McDonald’s House Charities, Inc.
free entrance for pupils at the Mind Museum
The following foundations have also provided material donations for the school:
There are currently 58 foundations listed under LCF CommEd.
