Robi Domingo: For the love of math
If there’s one celebrity that loves math as much as hosting, it’s got to be Robi Domingo. He loves math and he’s not shy to tell the world he does. In fact, he even admitted this in a TV segment while doing some video jock duties in the music channel, MYX. Asked what his favorite subject in school was, he said without hesitation that his favorite was “high school math.” “Masipag ako mag-aral,” he admits. “Pine-perfect ko halos yung mga exam tapos nililibre ko mga kaklase ko sa cafeteria.” He then went on to show some math tricks that left her female co-host dumbfounded. (He also showed more math tricks when he guested with Igi Boy Flores in Magandang Buhay.)
It’s no secret that math is a subject feared by many Filipinos as it is perceived to be “too difficult”. But Robi simply shows otherwise, and he does this with such coolness and swag that the subject suddenly becomes amazing. It becomes Mathdali.
Mathdali is a 36-episode TV series launched by Knowledge Channel in 2016 to show that learning math can be fun and exciting. And there was no better person to host the show than Robi himself. “Nung binigyan ako ng opportunity ng Knowledge Channel na magkaroon ng programa, lalung-lalo na yung isa sa mga paborito kong subjects ay Math, um-oo ako agad,” he said.
Robi plays the role of a math enthusiast (named “Kuya Robi”) and is joined by Igi Boy Flores, Vic Robinson III, and twins Joj and Jai Agpangan in their fun adventures overcoming their fear of Math and mastering the subject along the way.
“Sa pamagitan ng Mathdali makikita niyo ang mas masayang bahagi [ng Math]. Dito sa programa natin, hindi lang namin, programa nating lahat ay maglalaro tayo at kaakibat noon, s’yempre, marami tayong matututunan na mga paraan kung paano mag-solve ng mga bagay-bagay,” said Robi.
Mathdali is aired daily under the Mathematics curriculum block at 10:20 am, 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Knowledge Channel on SKY Cable, SKY Direct, Destiny Cable, and ABS-CBN TV Plus.
