KCFI’s 2023: Knowledge with Value
by Ram Ferrer
2023 was a fruitful year for Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. From imparting knowledge, wisdom, and values, to creating successful programs and projects that ignited hope and charged towards change. While no number of words can condense KCFI’s impact in the Filipino society, below is a rundown of the foundation’s efforts throughout 2023.
Quality Education and Care
KCFI has always been committed in providing quality education for the Filipino people. The generous production of learning materials for children and training programs for teachers and parents was made possible with the help of KCFI’s partner organizations and communities that supported the foundation in its goals and actions.
Starting the Year with Literacy
Continuing its early language literacy program Basa Bilang, KCFI, together with Rotary Club of Makati Premier District, distributed 60 episodes of “Ready, Set, Read!” to the Department of Education – Schools Division Office of Santa Rosa City, Laguna.
Selected Grade 1 teachers from the school also received training and mentoring under the Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-Based Pedagogies for Reading or LEEP-Reading. The teachers were mentored on engaging teaching techniques and monitored over the course of 3 months.
Education with care
KCFI ensures not only the education of children, but also the proper knowledge of their guardians. In partnership with the Department of Health and the National Nutrition Council, “I Love You1000: Batang #Laking1000” is a video series launched by KCFI in February 2023. The series covers proper nutrition and healthcare of children in the first 1,000 days—a time period crucial to a child’s early childhood development. The episodes were catered for parents, teachers, and healthcare providers raising and supporting children during their early development stage.
Appreciating culture with “Wikaharian”
March marked the launch of “Wikaharian” for Grade 2 students. With the collaboration of KCFI and the National Commission of Culture and the Arts (NCCA), 50 new episodes of curriculum-based video lessons were produced. The animated TV show aims to develop children’s awareness, appreciation, and love for Filipino culture, beliefs, and traditions.
LEEP around the country
KCFI partnered with numerous Local Government Units (LGUs) and DepEd Offices for Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies (LEEP), a face-to-face training program for educators. With this, the program was conducted in different communities with KCFI’s partners--Rotary and the Rotary Club of Makati Premier District for LEEP-Reading in Sta. Rosa, Laguna; South Luzon Thermal Energy Corporation for LEEP in Calaca, Batangas; and the Rotary clubs of Makati Premier District, Muntinlupa East, District 3830, District 3620, Makati East and Makati Rosewood for LEEP-ECD in Lobo, Batangas.
KCFI also extended it’s LEEP program to Burgos Ilocos, Norte. Through its partnership with the New Zealand Embassy, KCFI received the New Zealand High Embassy Fund Grant and brought Early Childhood Development (ECD) efforts to Burgos. KCFI turned over Knowledge Channel Portable Media Libraries (KC PML) materials for the children and educators in the area.
Knowledge reaches the Ifugao mountains
Even mountains are no challenge for the foundation. KCFI, with the help and support of the Provincial Local Government Unit of Ifugao, distributed thousands of KC PML to 40 Ifugao schools in Banaue and Aguinaldo.
KCFI, BDO Foundation, and Huawei Philippines for Mathematics
KCFI with co-funders BDO Foundation and Huawei Philippines, produced 10 new episodes of “MathDali” for Grade 1 students. Kapamilya star Robi Domingo hosted the new episodes of the show.
Under the same partnership, a 3-day technical training course was provided for teachers to equip them with technological skills that will aid them in teaching in the new normal. Knowledge Channel Teaching in the New Normal (KCTINN) project has achieved its goal of connecting 100 schools nationwide through the training course and distribution of learning materials.
Addressing Modern Challenges
Education is both an individual and social pursuit. In modern day society, children are faced with positive and negative impacts of technology along with the threat of climate change. Both endeavors have individual and social weight on children’s wellbeing. KCFI recognizes these modern-day challenges and makes small steps in raising awareness and addressing them through their projects.
KCFI released new animated series “The Heroes of Zero”
KCFI released its new series “The Heroes of Zero” in collaboration with the Philippine Mental Health Association, Inc. and Power of Zero. As we live in the digital age, technological reliance on young people becomes an active concern for parents and guardians. The show gives light to digital literacy, giving guidance on online safety and responsibility.
EcoProject received Outstanding CSR Project in Environment Award
