Marlo Mortel: taking Knowledge everywhere he goes
Carrying an extra large dice and a backpack, host Marlo Mortel hops from one school to another and to other places to test the students’ knowledge on general topics. He’s working with Knowledge Channel Foundation on a new show called Knowledge on the Go. It’s the channel’s first ever mobile game show and this time, it turns the spotlight on the channel’s most important audience – the learners. The idea behind the game is to make learning more fun and exciting while instilling the value that it’s okay to make mistakes and eventually learn from them.
Marlo started off his career when he was casted in the daytime drama Be Careful With My Heart alongside Janella Salvador on ABS-CBN. The love team was a click to daytime drama fans and a string of projects followed. He was casted again in the teen drama series Oh! My G. In 2015, he debuted his music career as part of the boy band Harana with Joseph Marco, Bryan Santos, and Michael Pangilinan. The group became regular performers in ABS-CBN’s Sunday variety show ASAP. He was also given a hosting stint in the morning show Umagang Kay Ganda.
His rise to fame evetually earned him the moniker “boyfie ng bayan”. He became close to his fans not only because of his looks, but more so his talents and love for his family. These qualities eventually landed him an opportunity to host an educational game show for Knowledge Channel. “Sobrang honored ako kasi s’yempre, of all the many artists and hosts, ako ang napili kahit na medyo baguhan pa ako when it comes to hosting. And s’yempre ibang usapan pa kapag educational show,” said Marlo.
With his constant interaction with students in shooting Knowledge on the Go, the 24-year old celebrity deems that the show is a medium to begin his advocacy for education. Currently, he is starting to post photos with accompanying trivia on his Instagram account (@marlomortelmusic_) with the hashtag #KnowledgeOntheGo.
“Na-realize ko na maybe kaya ako napunta dito, pwede din akong pagkatiwalaan sa ganitong klaseng field,” he said. “Sobrang importante din ng education for me, maganda na maging advocate ng education lalo na sa mga kabataan.” When he was still in school, Marlo joined extemporaneous speaking and elocution contests. He represented his class and won twice in the “Balagtasan”. He was also a consistent honor student from elementary to high school.
