NCCA, Knowledge Channel Join Forces for Bálay Pinoy 2024
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) partnered once again with the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) for the 2024 Bálay Pinoy School Caravan in celebration of Filipino Values Month, which took place at Pedro Guevara Elementary School in Binondo on November 14, and Jose Rizal Elementary School in Pasay on November 15.
Bálay Pinoy is NCCA’s initiative to promote the 20 Filipino Values including love for the family and community, faith, good governance, and honesty and integrity, among others.
Marichu Tellano, NCCA's Deputy Executive Director, further expounded on Bálay Pinoy and the celebration of Values Month's significance for the Filipino youth on her message for the event.
"Kami sa National Commission for Culture and the Arts, isinusulong po namin ito kaakibat ang Department of Education (DepEd)," Marichu said. “Dahil ang paniniwala natin dapat nagmumula sa murang edad ang pagbabalik tanaw kung ano mga mahalagang pag uugali, pananaw sa buhay, at kung ano iyong mga importanteng bagay na magbubuo sa atin bilang isang tao, isang mahusay na estudyante at bata, at isang mahusay na Pilipino."
The two-day caravan was graced with performances from rising singer-songwriter Daniel Paringit, the artist behind “Walang Hangganan,” and ventriloquist Ony Carcamo, who is also a multi-Palanca award-winning short story writer, playwright, and poet, capturing the hearts and minds of the young attendees and distinguished guests.
Heneral Tuna, the intergalactic cat who stars in the animated Filipino values show by NCCA of the same name, also made an appearance for the school caravan, surprising the grades 1-6 learners in attendance by performing a dance number with Tanghalang Bagong Sibol. Heneral Tuna notably made its debut on the Knowledge Channel during last year’s Bálay Pinoy.
KCFI Vice President Edric Calma expressed his appreciation for the Bálay Pinoy School Caravan, mentioning that Knowledge Channel continues to produce video lessons that practice values no matter what school subject it is geared towards to.
“We always make sure to integrate values in all the education shows that we produce, even if it is for Mathematics, Science, Araling Panlipunan (AP), Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE), and Physical Education (PE). We are happy that we have a month-long celebration dedicated to Filipino values led by the NCCA because it brings focus to it,” said Edric.
As tokens of gratitude, NCCA and KCFI also turned over a Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library (KCPML) package for basic education to the two schools that Bálay Pinoy visited, allowing offline access to over 1,500 video lessons, learning resources, and session guides aligned with the Department of Education’s curriculum.
Over 600 learners took part in this years’ Bálay Pinoy, marking another memorable and educative celebration of Values Month with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Knowledge Channel Foundation.
