One School at a Time: KCFI’s Best Moments of 2017

2017 was indeed a promising year for the Knowledge Channel Foundation. New doors were opened for partnerships which paved the way to reach more schools, teachers, and students across the country.

Such has built bridges with various companies not just to produce new learning episodes but also in training and connecting schools to the Knowledge Channel.  Below are some notable projects of the foundation last year:

100 for 100: The Knowledge Channel Project

The project entitled “100 for 100: The Knowledge Channel Project” is a partnership between Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc., and Rotary Districts 3830 (Philippines), 3620 (South Korea), and 3500 (Taiwan).

With the support of 60 Rotary Clubs, beneficiary public schools received educational television systems via SKY’s direct-to-home service, SKYdirect and ABS-CBN TVplus, giving them access to Knowledge Channel’s entire line-up of shows based on the K-12 curriculum of the Department of Education.

KCFI as Rotary Club of Makati Premier District’s cornerstone project

After a successful partnership with the Rotary clubs for the 100 for 100 Project, Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCFI) was chosen as a primary beneficiary of the newly formed Rotary Club of Makati Premier District to bring multimedia learning to more public schools thru one of its pivotal projects, Early Beginning Reading.

KCFI-SKY Partnership

The first television channel to reach the distant province of Batanes, Knowledge Channel returns to this breathtaking island-group, this time with SKY to donate educational television systems to four public schools: Basco Central, Diptan, Mahatao, and Ivana elementary schools in Batanes regained access ro Knowledge Channel’s rich curriculum-based videos seen via SKY’s Direct-to-Home (DTH) TV service, SKYdirect.

Camarines Norte

Five public elementary schools in the town of Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte access to Knowledge Channel thanks to the 100 for 100 The Knowledge Channel Project.

This is the first time KCFI has reached this second-class municipality where more than 30 public schools are supervised by the Jose Panganiban West and East districts of the Department of Education. Despite the distance and remoteness of some schools, watching Knowledge Channel is now possible through direct-to- home (DTH) satellite service of Sky Direct as well as the technical support provided by TeleRed Technologies, an ally of KCFI.

Palawan

Two more schools in Palawan are now connected to Knowledge Channel through support of another long-time partner, Malampaya Foundation.

The teachers and students of San Jose National High School and Pansol National High School in El Nido, Palawan were filled with gratitude and joy upon receiving KCFI’s education TV packages which included a television set and a SKY Direct satellite. KCFI representatives Ms. Doris Nuval (School and Community Engagement Head) and Mr. Ian Gaite (Assistant Manager for Transmedia) attended the turnover ceremonies at Taytay Island, Palawan.

Teachers Trained in Rizal, Tagaytay, Batangas, and Sultan Kudarat

In celebration of National Teacher’s Month last September, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) with the support of Western Union, First Philippine Industrial Park, Morong High School Alumni Association, Maybancal USA Association and the Department of Education, conducted a series of LEEP teacher trainings or Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies in the areas of Rizal, Tagaytay, Batangas, and Sultan Kudarat.

More than 300 teachers and principals attended the three-day workshops which focused on teaching strategies that promote 21st Century learning in the classroom. It aims to help improve the students’ learning outcomes by demonstrating different ways of teaching a topic aside from the usual chalk-and-blackboard approach. Delivered in a unique and interactive format, participants experienced firsthand how to effectively integrate theater arts, games, Knowledge Channel videos, and more in their classes.

The efforts of KCFI as a long-time institution for education were also recognized as it bagged awards last year.

League of Corporate Foundations Corporate Social Responsibility Expo (LCF CSR Expo)

Bonded by the Lopez way of social responsibility, Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCFI) along with ABSCBN News Channel (ANC), ABSCBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation (ALKFI), Energy Development Corporation (EDC), and the Lopez Group Foundation (LGFI) participated in the 2017 League of Corporate Foundations Corporate Social Responsibility Expo or the LCF CSR Expo last July 19-20, 2017 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati.

In this two-day event, KCFI shared its advocacy, programs and projects that currently support public school students and teachers to more than 80 guests who visited the booth. They also had the opportunity to express their thoughts on camera as to what they can do to “disrupt for social good” which was the event’s main theme.

Labingwalong Handog: 18 Years of Reaching More, Teaching More

Knowledge Channel, the first and only curriculum-based education TV channel in the Philippines, marked its 18th broadcast anniversary last December 8 at Sta. Rosa Elementary School Central II. The event highlighted the Foundation’s donation of 18 educational TV packages to all 18 elementary schools in the Department of Education (DepEd) division of Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The educational TV package included a 48-inch television set, a speaker set, and a Knowledge Channel portable media library.

DepEd Commends KCFI Anew

Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) was lauded anew by the Department of Education (DepEd) for its contributions in helping promote quality basic education in the country.

In ceremonies held on December 12, 2017 at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan at the DepEd Central Office, KCFI President Rina Lopez Bautista and Director of Operations Edric Calma were handed with plaques of appreciation.
