Reflecting on Success: KCFI's Highlights of 2022

Through collaborative efforts with our valued partners, we navigated uncharted territories, transforming challenges into opportunities to advance Filipino children's education. Join us as we celebrate the milestones and achievements that shaped KCFI's impactful journey in 2022.

 

Educators' resilience with "The Power of Yet" at MIBF 2022

KCFI honors educators with "The Power of Yet: Growth Mindset in Teaching and Learning" at MIBF 2022 on September 16, where President and Executive Director Rina Lopez emphasized the importance of perseverance and effort in achieving success. She highlighted teachers' role in fostering a growth mindset in students, emphasizing the power of "yet" to inspire resilience and continuous improvement.

The talk was part of MIBF's "A Celebration for Teachers" and preceded by the Knowledge On The Go quiz show. This event, aligned with National Teacher's Month, reflects KCFI's commitment since 1999 to enhancing education through multimedia resources and educator training.

 

Strengthening education through partnerships for the benefit of Filipino children

KCFI's 2022 initiatives focus on partnerships and programs to enhance education nationwide. From December 19-21, over a thousand teachers underwent KC TINN 3-day technical training, adding to the extensive teacher training efforts. With plans for more teacher training and early childhood development advocacy, KCFI aims to maximize its impact.

New educational programs, such as "Wikaharian," "Eco Squad," and "Puno ng Buhay," are set to launch on Knowledge Channel, reflecting collaborations with various institutions. Additionally, KCFI acquired educational videos and tools to benefit more Filipino children, demonstrating its commitment to accessible learning.

 

Science lessons on climate change and waste segregation

On December 6, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) announced its partnership with CEMEX Philippines Foundation, Inc. (CPFI) to develop science video lessons for Grades 3 to 7, focusing on climate change and waste segregation. These educational videos will be distributed via various platforms including satellite, cable TV, and online channels, enhancing accessibility for Filipino learners.

 

Provides agricultural and environmental education

Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) debuted the first 10 episodes of Agrikids 2022 on November 28, showcasing educational programming on agriculture and environmental care. Sponsored by the Agricultural Training Institute, "AgriKids" aims to educate children about agriculture. Alongside this initiative, KCFI offers digital learning opportunities through "School at Home" on Kumu SeenZone and Facebook Live, featuring weekday sessions covering various subjects hosted by different personalities.

 

KCFI and CCP educating youth about their heritage

Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) solidified their collaboration through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) in December 2021. Spearheaded by Rina Lopez-Bautista and Arsenio "Nick" Lizaso, this partnership aims to showcase CCP programs on Knowledge Channel, enriching Filipino culture among young audiences. By integrating cultural and arts programs into the channel's School at Home blocks, the initiative educates students about Filipino heritage, building on past successful collaborations like the adaptation of "Noli Me Tangere" and theatrical productions. The virtual MOA signing included CCP Chairperson Margarita Moran-Floirendo and KCFI's Director of Operations Edric Calma.

KCFI planned to unveil the titles of the new CCP shows soon, with airing scheduled for the first and second quarters of 2022. This collaboration sought to further immerse Filipino youth in their cultural heritage through engaging and educational content.

 

Educational programming for hybrid learning

In August, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) introduced its School Anywhere campaign to support the opening of classes. This initiative complements the Department of Education’s (DepEd) hybrid learning curriculum, offering access to educational content anytime, anywhere. School Anywhere provides a wide range of educational programs across TV, online, and offline platforms, facilitating hybrid learning. With shows featuring celebrities and influencers discussing school subjects and tailored content for preschool to senior high school levels, it includes a special TLE programming block. Viewers can access School Anywhere on cable, DTT, and online platforms like iWantTFC, Kapamilya Channel, and A2Z.

 

Multi-Sectoral Symposium on early childhood development

On November 24th, the Early Childhood Care and Development Council (ECCD Council) and its partners - Asia Philanthropy Circle (APC), Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI), Ayala Foundation, Zuellig Family Foundation, and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) - organized a Multi-Sectoral Symposium via Zoom, Facebook Live, and YouTube Live.

The event targeted policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector as part of the ECCD Council's 2022 Early Years Fair, themed "Strengthening the Minds of Every Child and Filipino Family Together."

 

President Rina Lopez boosts student involvement in environmental action

Expanding upon the success of last year’s inaugural EcoProject: Kilos Kabataan para sa Kapaligiran in Marikina City, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) and Breeze launched EcoProject Year 2: Kilos Kabataan Para sa Kapaligiran on September 30. This initiative reached a new cohort of 17,000 students, teachers, and parents from the Schools Division Office of Taguig City and Pateros (SDO TAPAT) through virtual platforms such as Zoom, YouTube Live, and Facebook Live.

President Rina Lopez revealed plans to extend the project's reach to involve more students in addressing climate change through environmental activities. In total, 40,829 students participated in EcoProject Year 2, contributing to the collection of over 25 tons of plastic waste for upcycling efforts led by KCFI and Breeze.

 

KCFI in empowering literacy

In November, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. paid a visit to Yapak Elementary School, a Knowledge Channel K-nnected School, located in Lagundi, Morong Rizal, to commemorate National Reading Month. During the visit, they conducted a Read Aloud session and distributed art materials. Additionally, Mr. Edric Calma, Director of Operations of KCFI, was appointed as a reading ambassador by the school. Employees of Knowledge Channel also contributed by sending their own recorded read aloud videos.

 

Reaching More Filipinos with Curriculum-Based Education

Innovative educational content for Filipino children through media and technology

On February 24, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) and the National Council for Children's Television (NCCT) came together in a significant Ceremonial MOA Signing and Launch, marking a momentous collaboration to expand their reach to more Filipino youth. With NCCT as a partner, KCFI aims to broaden its impact on Filipino children.

KCFI is committed to providing innovative learning experiences to Filipino children through media and technology, while NCCT focuses on developing children's TV programs that promote holistic development and cultural identity. Together, they are dedicated to delivering high-quality educational content for Filipino youth.

 

KCFI Honors Filipino Teachers

In October, Knowledge Channel celebrated Filipino teachers during the 2022 National Teachers' Month, acknowledging their unwavering dedication amid the challenges of the pandemic. Headed by Rina Lopez, KCFI's president, the festivities featured motivational talks and tailored programs highlighting teachers' crucial role in nurturing a growth mindset among students. Additionally, partnerships with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya, BDO, and Huawei facilitated the dissemination of educational materials to underserved schools.

 

KCFI’s Volunteer and Internship Program Class of 2022 Graduation

KCFI celebrated the achievements of interns and volunteers in its KCVIP program with an online graduation themed "KCFI Through the Years: The Art of Metamorphosis" on September 4. The event, attended by KCFI President Rina Lopez and other dignitaries, highlighted the organization's growth and its commitment to reaching Filipino youth, especially during the pandemic.

 

TalkED: Early Childhood Series

In May, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) launched the TalkED: Early Childhood Series with Bianca Gonzalez. The series premiered on May 26, aiming to provide valuable guidance to parents and caregivers in nurturing young children, thereby supporting early childhood development in the Philippines.

 

Strengthen Accessible Education and Hybrid Learning

On June 8, KCFI forged new partnerships with leading brands in banking, technology, and non-profit sectors to enhance access to quality education, support educators in hybrid learning, and promote Filipino values among youth. Teaming up with BDO Foundation and Huawei Technologies, KCFI developed interactive math lessons for Grade 1 students in alignment with DepEd's curriculum, strengthening its "School at Home" program.

23 Years of Transformative Education

Established on June 14, 1999, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) marks the 23rd anniversary of its pioneering program, Knowledge Channel, which has evolved from satellite broadcast to a multi-platform educational resource over the years.

Knowledge Channel remains steadfast in its mission as a catalyst for transformative learning experiences using media and technology, dedicated to serving the educational needs of Filipino children.

 

President Rina Lopez Bautista Named Forbes Asia Hero for Education Advocacy

Rina Lopez Bautista, founder of Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI), is recognized among Forbes Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy for her contributions to education and COVID-19 relief in the Philippines. KCFI, dedicated to enhancing Filipino students' education through media and technology, launched a "School At Home" (SAH) campaign during the pandemic, delivering over 1,500 educational videos aligned with the Department of Education's curriculum to free-to-air television.

With funding from Lopez group companies and other sources, KCFI's SAH campaign now reaches over 10 million Filipino households through various platforms and has conducted webinars and training programs for over 7,000 Filipina educators and parents.

 

KCFI Advances Education in the Philippines Through Collaboration

For nearly 24 years, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) has been dedicated to providing innovative learning experiences for Filipino children using media and technology.
