As we celebrate the holiday season and welcome the new year, the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) stays committed in its mission to promote equal learning opportunities for Filipino children, bringing focus on Early Childhood Development (ECD), and forging partnerships to pave the way for a brighter future for our young learners.
Parents and caregivers of children aged 0 to 4 were provided with new learnings through the “KCFI’s Early Care Matters” online conference on November 28. Dr. Maria Rita Lucas, Early Childhood practitioner and advocate, provided insights on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Nurturing Care Framework, along with practical insights on Responsive Caregiving. The free conference also showcased KCFI’s packages for ECD of learning resources – music videos and animated stories, and training and mentoring programs for child development workers and other care providers of young children.
KCFI brought Knowledge-on-the-Go quiz show and an ECD booth at Quezon City’s 6th State of the City’s Children Report in celebration of National Children’s Month.
Also in November, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and KCFI rolled out the 2024 Balay Pinoy School Caravan, a Values Month campaign promoting Filipino values among young learners. Pedro Guevarra Elementary School in Binondo and Jose Rizal Elementary School in Pasay were visited by the caravan with performances and insightful activities, including a personal appearance of “Heneral Tuna,” a mascot of the main cast of NCCA’s Filipino values video.
KCFI partnered with Domex for the celebration of World Toilet Day at Ciriaco P. Tinga Elementary School in Taguig. Learners were taught about hygiene at school and at home. The event also launched “Misyon: Malinis na Kapaligiran, Maayos na Kalusugan!,” an episode of Payong K-Lusugan developed by KCFI and Domex on toilet hygiene.
KCFI secured new partnerships to provide more holistic learning experiences. It signed a memorandum of agreement with the Provincial Government of Bulacan for the airing on Knowledge Channel of 30 historical videos from SINEliksik Bulacan DocuFilms. The videos aim to teach local history and their relevance to national issues and concerns.
FDC Misamis Power Corporation and Prudential Guarantee and Assurance, Inc. (PGAI) signed a MOA with KCFI for a partnership to help improve the acquisition of Reading skills through Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies for Reading (LEEP-Reading) for 10 separate beneficiary schools in both Misamis Oriental and Las Piñas. LEEP-Reading equips teachers with engaging techniques for teaching Reading, specifically with Knowledge Channel’s Reading shows.
