KCFI conducts mentorship session for teachers

Knowledge Channel reinforces skills of first grade teachers in teaching reading through its first mentorship session.
Part of Knowledge Channel Foundation’s (KCFI) advocacy is to help Filipino primary grade students become independent learners, confident problem solvers, and critical thinkers by the end of Grade 3 through Basa Bilang, a multi-year project piloted in 18 Sta. Rosa Elementary Schools. 59 teachers were trained on early reading last August and on September 21, a follow-up mentorship session was held to further assist them in their instruction and strategies.
The seminar and training discussed how to effectively apply integrated literacy in their classes using children’s literature, review of early literacy concepts using the plan, revision of lesson plans succeeded with application. A collection of storybooks featured in the animation series Wikaharian were also turned over to the schools thanks to the generous donation of Eridanus Marketing Corporation, COV Med Supplies and Equipment, RWINS General Merchandise, and AKRIZ Printing Press.

The event was held at Gabaldon Hall, Santa Rosa Elementary School (SRES), Central II last Sept. 21, attended by the respective principals and selected teachers of the other 17 Public Elementary Schools such as SRES-Central I, SRES-Central III, Labas Elementary School, Tagapo Elementary School, Sinalhan Elementary School, Aplaya Elementary School, Caingin Elementary School, Southville IV Elementary School, Dita Elementary School, Malitlit Elementary School, Jose Zavalla Memorial Elementary School, Macabling Elementary School, Balibago Elementary School, Dila Elementary School, Pulong Sta. Cruz Elementary School, Don Jose Elementary School and Sto. Domingo Elementary School.
Basa Bilang, is a project that aims to help children in Grades 1 to 3 read and count better through multimedia. This project is made possible through the support of various individuals and organizations including the Local Government of Santa Rosa City, Department of Education Division of Santa Rosa, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
