More than 140 QC Schools Trained on LEEP

Teachers and principals of Quezon City public schools are now ready to face their classrooms this 2018 using the newest strategies they learned from LEEP or Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies. The flagship teacher training program of Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) was sponsored by the Local Government of Quezon City and the Department of Education – Schools Division Office of Quezon City.

More than 560 teachers and principals have participated in the three-day training program on effective and evidence-based 21st century teaching and learning strategies and approaches, and on the use of the Knowledge Channel’s multimedia technologies in classroom instruction. Implementation was done in four batches: November 10-12, November 17-19, December 1-3, and December 8-10. They were all conducted at the Quezon City Science Interactive Building.

LEEP helps teacher-participants shift their mindsets and transform their classrooms into engaging learning environments which are highly learner-centered and constructivist. One of the participants who experienced this was Marilou Regal, teacher of Odelco Elementary School. “Sa lahat ng mga napuntahan kong seminar ito yung parang kakaiba kasi interactive siya talaga. Binigyan lahat ng pagkakataon na magsalita,” she said.

Another teacher, Jean Anda of Rosa Susano Elementary School in Novaliches, expressed how LEEP has changed her perspective in teaching her Grade 1 pupils. “Nabago po sa pananaw ko na iinvolve yung mga bata sa activities. Natuwa ako kasi yung strategies tsaka yung mga message po na pinapakita po yung techniques sa amin na magagamit ko po talaga siya kahit Grade 1 palang yung mga estudyante ko.”

The project also aimed to equip all the 142 public schools in Quezon City with Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library (PML), an external hard drive loaded with more than one thousand Department of Education (DepEd) curriculum-based educational videos, e-learning modules, session guides or lesson exemplars for teachers and other learning resources.
