Tahanan Books ink MOA with Knowledge Channel

BY MICHAEL RAMOS | August 13, 2019

A well-loved publisher of Filipino childrens books has partnered with Knowledge Channel in helping Filipino children read better.

In a ceremonial signing event held last May 7, Tahanan Books and Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCFI) has officially forged its partnership for Basa Bilang, a multi-year project initiated by KCFI to help Filipino public school children in primary grades read and count better through animation videos and teacher training.

The agreement between the two partners will enable KCFI to animate two of Tahanan’s story books: “Ang Kuwento ni Binibining Repolyo” and “Ma Me Mi Mumu” which were both used in the K to 12 Curriculum of the Department of Education. These animation videos will be aired on Knowledge Channel under the soon-to-air show “Wikaharian”. Signing the MOA was KCFI President and Executive Director, Rina Lopez Bautista and Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Tahanan Books, Teresa Roxas-Tan.

Meg Roxas of the Marketing Department of Tahanan Books has expressed her gratitude to KCFI for supporting local publishers. “I am Thankful for the partnership with Knowledge Channel and for creating this program called Basa Bilang. We are hoping that more kids will be able to enjoy locally produced content – yung mga libro na ginawa ng mga artists at authors na direkta galing sa Pilipinas at yung content na ginagawa nila is all about our country. This can help [Filipino] kids see more familiar content that is more about them rather than kids from other countries.”

ILAW NG TAHANAN PUBLISHING, INC is a Filipino corporation dedicated to making quality books for Filipino families as well as supplementary curriculum materials for schools and libraries. Named for the Filipino word for “home,” Tahanan aims to nurture a passion for learning with books that celebrate Philippine culture and history.

Tahanan is a nine-time winner of the Philippine National Book Award for Children’s Literature awarded by the National Book Development Board and the Manila Critics Circle. It has also collected the Ceres Alabado Award for Outstanding Children’s Literature as well as three Gintong Aklat Awards given by the Book Development Association of the Philippines.
