The Knowledge Channel Volunteer and Internship Program (KCVIP) is the sole category winner for the Operations Management Category of the 2019 Lopez Achievement Awards (LAA).

Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI), on its 20th Anniversary, received its third prestigious Lopez Achievement Award for the project “Knowledge Channel and the Power of Interns” under the Operations Management Category. Held at The Fifth at Rockwell last October 17, the 2019 LAA ceremony was attended by various Lopez company executives, the eleven team finalists, and family members of the Lopez family including KCFI Chairman, Mr. Oscar M. Lopez.

KCFI’s award-winning entry focused on harnessing the power of interns to help create animation videos for Grades 1 to 3 based on Department of Education (DepEd) textbooks in English, Filipino, and Math. This was in response to the Foundation’s challenge of finding financial aid for its projects due to the country’s changing political and economic landscape in the past years.

Following the directive of KCFI President and Executive Director Rina Lopez-Bautista, Nuval and the rest of her team focused on partnering with universities and colleges, tapping interns to help create, animate, and bring to life a multi-year project that aims to improve the foundational skills of public school children in reading and counting. Since 2018,  more than 300 interns have helped KCFI in its advocacy and despite lack of funding and with an initial investment of Php 1.15 million, Php 11.45 million worth of learning materials have been produced for the benefit of 600 thousand teachers and over 20 million students.

“We want to continue to serve the Filipino children and the public education system. We know our cause is worth it and well do anything to get it going,” said KCVIP team leader Doris Nuval, in her acceptance speech.

This is also KCFI’s first time to win under the Operations Management Category. Two if its awards were under the Public Responsibility category: one in 2005 for the Television Education for the Advancement of Muslim Mindanao (TEAMM) funded by USAID and the second in 2016 for Psychological First Aid: Mental Wellness for Educators done in partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. (ALKFI)

KCVIP continues to partner with various educational institutions and welcome more interns so Filipino learners may continue to benefit from the free quality educational multimedia learning resources. In the words of Ms. Rina Lopez Bautista, “No work, no job is too small to create an impact for our country.”
