KCFI celebrates teachers through “The Power of Yet: Growth Mindset in Teaching and Learning” at MIBF 2022
“You can learn anything to the highest levels through hard work,” said Ms. Rina Lopez, President and Executive Director of Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI), as she discussed growth mindset at the Manila International Book Fair 2022.
In this talk, Lopez emphasized that hard work and effort are keys to success in a growth mindset-directed life, eagerly sharing that “the secret to life is effort.” She also highlighted the role of teachers in instilling growth mindset among children, noting that it is from them and the primary care providers that a child understands how to deal with failures and setbacks and learn from them. When teachers have growth mindset, they teach their students that failure is not an end result, but the beginning of a journey of self-improvement. This is the difference that exists between “I can’t do this” and “I can’t do this yet,” demonstrated in one simple word – “yet.” Through “yet”, we hold the space for growth and learning; we admit our current limitations but strive to overcome them.
Lopez’ talk, “The Power of Yet: Growth Mindset in Learning and Education with Knowledge Channel” was part of the larger Day 2 afternoon program at the MIBF 2022 called “A Celebration for Teachers”. The National Teacher’s Month Coordinating Council (NTMCC) mounted the event on September 16 at the SMX Convention Center.
The talk was preceded by Knowledge On The Go quiz show hosted KCFI’s Wikaharian host Teacher Michelle Agas. KOTG winners received prizes from KCFI and NTMCC. The teachers asked questions and shared their thoughts after Lopez’ keynote talk. This event is part of the 2022 National Teacher’s Month Celebration with the theme “Gurong Pilipino, Dangal ng Sambayang Pilipino.” National Teachers’ Month is celebrated yearly from September 5 to October 5, while National Teacher’s Day is celebrated on October 5.
